First BBQ of the year!!

On Saturday we had the first BBQ of the spring/summer!! The students loved it and it went amazing. There is just something about BBQ food that tastes amazing and gives you that feeling of summer.
Just looking at this food makes me hungry!!

"Bet you can't have just one." Gotta love the potato chips!

Here is a couple of guys anxiously waiting to get their food.

The boys came up with this pose on their own, it was supposed to be their sophisticated look?  What do you  think?

Just happy to be at a BBQ with our friends!!

The staff love these kind of events because it gives them an opportunity to mingle a little more with the students and really enjoy what they do!!

Here is Family 5 plannig their strategy to be first in line for the food!!
The BBQ was a success and we are excited to have many more and so are the students!

Fishing With The Mentors

The weather is warming up and the mentors wanted to have a benefit outside.Today was a perfect day 77 degrees and nothin but sunshine!! We had the students put their own worms on and it was hilarious to see these "tough guys" squirming as much as the worms they were hooking!!

Some of the students had never been fishing like this and so the expierenced students were helping them out!!
Even though we were not having any luck the boys were still happy and optimistic!!
Fishing is all about patience and some of the boys started to doubt that this was going to be "fun".
Then we struck gold with this 16" monster from the lower pond!!
Within 5 minutes we had another one hooked and then the boys were "hooked"!!!
This one was a team effort after losing a few trying to get them on the dock!! Way to go guys!!
It may be small but it still counts!!
They were so proud to finally catch a bass!!
Some of us had to untangle the lines a couple of times but stuck with it!!
Others were willing to do just about anything to get a big one!!
End Result was everyone had fun and can't wait to go again.
Then they just turned goofy!
It was sooo much fun and the boys loved learning something new and also teaching each other some skills they possessed! DRA is so grateful to be working with these youth and pleased with their ablities and enthusiastic personalities!! Thanks for being so awesome fellas!!

Popcorn Popping on the apricot/peach trees.

Since the rain and snow have stopped and the air has warmed up. Spring is back in full swing!

Some of the blossoms have yet to open up but are well on their way.

Some of the trees have already began to bloom and look amazing!!

It looks just like popcorn!!

We love this time of year!!

The ducks are still here!!

And starting to grow in numbers!!

Make sure to get a fishing pole from the cabin on your visits!!

This is the view from the boys dorms and it is amazing! We feel so lucky to have this beautiful scenery surrounding us!

Where did Spring Go??

Today 3.9.10 which is normally our spring break we woke up to this!!!
There was about 1" of standing snow around 8am.The boys O&A cart!!
Here are some of our new trees we just got! Good thing they are built to stand this kind of weather.
Good thing it is not football season!!

The orchard took a beating but it had not gotten blossoms yet, hope they survive!!
At least some of the wildlife stuck around!!
Watch your step on the bridge!! Black ice!!

We are so appreciative of the moisture we have been receiving. It is a blessing in disguise, and we are truly grateful. We hope if you have a visit that you plan for some of the cold weather!

Spring cleaning at DRA is in full swing!! Here are some photos that display the boys cleaning abilities. The boys understand now what it takes and means to DEEP clean! They had fun doing it and they loved seeing the "fruits of their labors".

Here are the men behind the MadneSS!!
The 3 Musketeers!!
The boys found out that even underneath things get dirty!!
Now Tony knows what it means to clean out the FRidGE!!
Even cleaning the things that hold the clean things!
Who would of thought that dirt could've got back here?
Chris doing dishes with a smile!
Yes, even clean the walls?
The boys were happy to see that they were apart of the finish product. They wanted to show their parents they actually do know how to clean. Now the parents can hold them to this high standard when they get home. Every parent wants their oven to be this clean!!
