We recently had our Parent 201 seminar at Diamond Ranch Academy, at this seminar the parents get to try some of the experiences that their students have been apart of in the past few months. One of which is the bowdrill, this is not as easy as it looks! Here are couple of the guys that gave it a shot.
The students are able to help get the parents started, then they get to sit back and watch them struggle, get frustrated, and experience the joy that comes with getting the fire

Here is one dad that started off really well.

Then we had a couple guys where their hard work and determination paid off and they got fire!

Teamwork Games

This week at DRA we had one of our students setup a benefit. He was planning it for part of his service towards others and building teamwork skills. As you can see from the pictures it was a hit and the students were able to build the relationships and learn about teamwork through the team based games that they were playing.
Here they are with the cookies that were offered as prizes for the teams that did the best in different areas including, best communication, best sportsmanship, etc..
Here is one of the teams that were playing after winning a round!
Here they are hoisting the student on their shoulders and thanking him for organizing such a fun event! Thanks Andrew!!!!

While the few students were away at the parade the rest of us had Water Games all morning including Water Kickball, Slip n Slide races, and Water Volleyball. ( More pictures to come) Here are a couple of photos of the events....

Service with a Smile!!

Arts and crafts time! The students decorated a paper with their favorite theme..

Mine Field Challenge

We had the students in The League do a team building challenge where they had to guide a friend that was blindfolded through a fake mine field. The partner guiding could not touch the other partner it was completely through verbal skills that they had to get them through.
Here they are starting, if the person going through the mine field touched one of the mines then they had to start over.
A few of the teams had to start over multiple times. But eventually everyone made it through!
Adding to the confusion was 3 other people trying to guide their friend as well at the same time!
After the mine field we played the "Present Game" this is a game that is strictly for fun and to build the culture between the members of the group.
Then the students had some target practice with some awesome Nerf bows!

We had group therapy the other day and here are some pics from one of the groups. They had to build a "free standing" structure from just paper and paper clips along with some small cups. Here are some of their structures.

The teamwork was really good from this group!
There was a lot of deliberating and debating of ideas from this group. Once they eventually started they did very well.
Here was the final measuring!! It came down to a paperclip to determine who was crowned the winner!

We had an awesome benefit for the students that have been doing amazing with their certification work assignments. The YDC helped pick the students as they have been correcting the assignments as well as the Campus Director. We had an awesome time playing a game that most of the boys had only heard about and never played! Here are some photos of the event and those that were chosen to go.

The game was slow paced at first until everyone started to get the hang of it.
Then their inner tennis players came out and they started to get into it more.
Here are the guys after playing for over an hour and we even had to turn on the lights.

We went for ice cream afterwards at DQ and all the boys were extremely grateful for it.
Erik and Evan were are winners in the team competition, they received blizzards for winning!

Let the Crossfit Games begin!!

This week we had our annual "Field Day"! This year we added a little twist and used the new Crossfit workouts as our theme. It was awesome! The boys were competitive and had so much fun. Here is a sample of some of the events......
We had the boys volunteer for however many events they wanted, this event involved pullups, pushups, and air squats. We had the Staff as coaches for the guys as they went through the workouts and it was really good to see how hard the boys were able to push themselves.

This events was strictly running! They had to do a "ladder" the entire length of the field! This means they had to touch every 10 yard line and go back to the start then go to the next one and back to the start. It was really tough and they were almost walking at the end of it....
It may look like they are resting but they are just waiting for the whistle to begin. :) This one they did 25 situps, 25 burpees, and then 25 air squats!
 Halfway through the situps.....
Now onto the burpees!! I am so proud of how the Stone Ridge guys did on all the events and how hard they pushed themselves.
We had the soccer coach come out and do a game where the boys tried to see how many times they could tap the soccer ball without it hitting the ground. Connor did 370 times and took first place!!!
This event involved clean and jerks then running 400 meters and pullups... They had to do all of these 3 times for a timed event!! As you can see from their faces it was not easy!
We also had some fun games in between events so the guys could rest if they did more than 2 events. This one they had to hit the ping pong ball with a flipper and try to get it in the ice chest. Not as easy as it sounds, you might want to try this one at home......
Then we had them use squirt guns and shoot their partner in the mouth then he had to use that water to fill up a cup. Whoever filled it up the fastest won!

Certified Student Training

We had the Certified Student benefit/training on Thursday. It was a hit and the guys really did well with the lesson and the game.
We played Cranium and taught the boys how to get out of their comfort zones and stretch themselves to do things that they normally would not have. Such as humming songs, using their friend as a puppet to show an action, and acting out silly movements and words.
It was tough for some of the personalities to not be able to discuss and tell the other students what they were drawing or acting out. It was really good to see the guys work through the different tasks and not get upset with each other.
We had Oreos and milk at the end then the winning team recieved a candy bar. Everyone was saying thank you and expressed how they thought the game was going to be dumb at first then they were all able to have fun. A couple of the guys asked if they could use the game to play with their families on upcoming visits as well.
Overall it was a success and the guys were very thankful and fun to be around.
